Görlitz; Studium Berlin; 1961-1989 Mitglied der Deutschen Staatsoper/Staatskapelle Berlin (Solokontrabassist); seit 1968 Lehrauftrag an der Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin; 1972: Kammermusiker, 1980 Kammervirtuose; 1989/90 Mitglied des Bayreuther Festspielorchesters; 1991 Professur Musikhochschule Saarbrücken; seit 1994 Prof. an der Musikhochschule in München; Herausgeber, Forschungstätigkeiten; internationaler Juror; Rundfunk-, Schallplatten- und CD-Aufnahmen; Leiter von Meisterkursen in Europa, USA, Asien; Präsident der Internationalen Johann-Matthias-Sperger-Gesellschaft; Gründer und künstlerischer Leiter des Internationalen Johann-Matthias-Sperger-Wettbewerbes. Scholarship-Award der Internationalen Society of Bassists/USA für Verdienste um den Kontrabass.
